There are 16 open roles for the April performances.
If you’ve ever had a desire to take to the stage, now’s your chance. The Jenkintown Music Theatre is hosting auditions for its upcoming production of “Ragtime,” the musical.
According to the website, Broadway World, the open auditions will seek a variety of roles.
“’Ragtime’ brings to life the stories of three distinct groups,” said the page, “African Americans, upper-class white Americans, and Eastern European immigrants, as they navigate a rapidly changing society in New York City in search of the American Dream.”
The production will be directed by Jennifer Corsanico Berger, with musical direction by Allison Bruen and choreography by Tyree Taylor. Auditions will take place on Sunday, Dec. 1 from noon to 7 p.m. Callbacks, by invitation only, will be held on Monday, Dec. 2.
The show dates for “Ragtime” will take place on April 4, 5, 6, 10, 11, and 12. Matinee showings will be held on April 6 and 12. Those hoping to audition must reserve a one-hour audition slot via the online sign-up here.
“We are looking for a diverse, talented, and energetic cast to bring this story to life,” said the sign-up form. “[Those auditioning] must be able to sing and move well.”
In total, the production’s leadership is seeking two roles for actors ages 10 to 12. All other roles will be for those age 18 and over. The roles are open and unpaid. There are a total of 16 roles in the show, and an audition form will request you to mark off those roles you are interested in prior to auditioning. You will also need a headshot, resume, along with your completed audition form.
Auditions will take place at Jenkintown High School, located at 250 West Ave., in Jenkintown. A full list of character descriptions for the available roles can be found online here.
Rehearsals will begin on Jan. 5, 2025. The cast will rehearse on Sunday afternoons, as well as Monday and Wednesday evenings.
