Slated for its actual anniversary of its incorporation, the public is invited to join in the fun on Dec. 8.
If you somehow have not heard, Jenkintown is celebrating a pretty big birthday this year. As of Dec. 8, the community will officially turn the big 1-5-0! That’s right, the borough has officially been in existence for a century-and-a-half.
Known as a sesquicentennial celebration, plenty of exciting news has already been shared on Willow Grove Now about the big festivities. (Have you contributed to the time capsule yet?) If you missed it, check out the documentary-style video that the school district was able to contribute here:
Jenkintown School District has a full listing of the year’s celebrations online.
But all the fun truly culminates on Dec. 8 for the true anniversary. According to a press release from the borough, Jenkintown Borough was incorporated on Dec. 8, 1874. To mark the occasion, Sunday, Dec. 8 at 11 a.m. will be an important milestone ceremony.
Designed to “honor our past and look forward to our future,” the event will include a creation of the time capsule and burial, essay readings by students of the school districts, remarks from community officials, free hot chocolate and refreshments, and live music!
“Your presence would make this celebration truly memorable,” said a release from the Borough to the community. “We look forward to honoring Jenkintown’s rich history and promising future with our community. Let’s come together to make this day unforgettable.”
The public is welcome to share in the memorable birthday at the community’s Town Square. For more information about the ongoing events and details, visit the Borough’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/jenkintownboro.
