A house fire reported Sunday evening is under investigation, though authorities are confident it was accidental.
First responders were called out around 6:47 p.m. to the 400 block of Corinthian Avenue in Upper Moreland Township Sunday evening. Edward Glassman, Fire Chief/Emergency Management Coordinator at Upper Moreland Township Fire Department said that the short-lived blaze was likely started due to two heat sources.
“It originated near a cabinet, and we’ve narrowed down to be what we believe was the cause, but it is technically still under investigation,” said Glassman. “There was a little candle lightbulb and a candle burning that were the heat sources. Once we make a final determination, we can be sure.”
At this point, Glassman said, the insurance company will step in for its evaluation.
“An insurance investigator is going to come look, so it is still under investigation,” he said.
While there were no injuries, the two home occupants were treated for smoke inhalation, according to Glassman.
The Upper Moreland Township Fire Department chief said the fire was quickly extinguished, in under five minutes.
The closed roadway was reopened shortly after the emergency personnel were able to clear Corinthian Avenue.
