In a world full of controversy and combat, it seems any way you turn there are divisive and destructive drivers aimed at pushing us apart. While it may simply be a matter of the most extreme of each side yelling the loudest, the sound can often drown out the middle, even when that may be the majority.
But what if we could teach peace? One local church is hoping to do just that with its upcoming seminar. The “Peacemaking in Multi-Cultural Teams” workshop will be hosted at the Willow Grove Bible Church on Saturday, Nov. 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Registration is required for this day-long event, which will be held at the church, located at 212 Everett Ave., in Willow Grove. The sessions claim to take a “international biblical perspective” on conflict resolution and reconciliation.
“What if we learned to talk about our differences instead of avoiding them?” asked the session’s promotional materials. “What if we communicated in ways that increased our unity rather than ending relationships? What if we saw disagreements as opportunities to grow rather than a defeat?”
The day’s event will be led by Pastor Steve Olsen. In addition to the educational seminar, the church hosts weekly men’s prayer groups Tuesdays at 7 p.m., and women’s group on Tuesdays at 7 p.m.
Every second Sunday, the church hosts a Family Fellowship Meal, to which the public is invited to attend. Every Saturday the church plays host to Narcotics Anonymous meetings at 8 p.m., while Cast Your Cares in Kensington takes place the first Saturday of each month with a meet up at the church at 2:15 p.m. so that the group may travel together.
