Jenkintown Borough will hold a public meeting on Thursday, Nov. 7, from 7 to 9 p.m. to develop a new streamlined ordinance governing permit parking within the borough.
The permit parking system had been one of several frustrating issues, which were discussed at previous borough council meetings in September. Once they'd discovered the magnitude of issues, city officials determined the issue needed a full meeting for discussion, said Jekintown Borough Manager George Locke.
The existing permit system is a collection of ad hoc agreements, and Locke said the goal is to create a more uniform system codified by Borough ordinance, Locke said.
Currently, permit parking is in effect on the following on the following streets:
In other parking business, Jenkintown is transitioning from coin-operated parking meters and kiosks to a digitized payment system. The transition begins this month and will be completed by year end 2024.
Several 20-minute street parking spaces have/will be designated on West Avenue, Leedom Street, and Summit Avenue for quick and easy access to businesses without a parking fee. The 20-minute parking spaces will also serve as unloading spaces when needed for business deliveries, improving safety and reducing traffic congestion.
ParkMobile will be the vendor providing all parking payment options at all formerly metered spaces and kiosks throughout the Borough.
ParkMobile allows users to pay for parking via their smartphone application, web browser, text, or through calling a phone number. More information on how to use ParkMobile’s payment options can be found at https://jenkintownboro.com/2024/10/parkmobile-digitized-parking-payments/.
