If you see a poor dog left outside in the very cold, Code Blue, nights, you can call him. If you have some unsightly, and even potentially dangerous to traffic, roadkill in front of your home, give him a shout. If a racoon has opted to winter in your attic, he can help.

He is Abington Township’s new Animal Control Officer Jerry Czech!

“We are thrilled to welcome Jerrold Czech as our new Animal Control Officer,” said the Abington Township Police Department recently via its Facebook page. “Jerry joins us with an incredible wealth of experience and knowledge.”

Czech has served a total of 27 years dedicated to the Pennsylvania Game Commission, where “he played a pivotal role in wildlife management and education,” said the social media post.

“His expertise extends to Pennsylvania game laws, wildlife behavior, and community engagement, making him an exceptional addition to our team,” said the ATPD post.

The state’s Southcentral Game Commission offices were supervised by Steve Kleiner as of 2012. He utilized GroupsIO to share his experience with Czech.

“Jerry spent his entire career serving the people and wildlife of the bustling Philadelphia and Montgomery County areas. His experiences in the field ranged from inner-city to rural, and everything in between,” said Kleiner of his co-worker. “His career was not only about protecting our wildlife resources, but also serving the public of the Commonwealth. Jerry did this with great pride and generously gave back to his local communities.”

Kleiner said his associate was often volunteering to go above and beyond the parameters of his job.

“Jerry was often found being involved with Shop with a Cop, food banks, benefit rides, memorial wreath placements, Jr. Game Warden camps, and so much more,” said Kleiner after Czech’s gaming commission retirement. “He understood the importance of connecting communities with law enforcement and worked toward that every day of his career. Thank you for your service, Jerry.”

In addition to his time with the state’s gaming commission, Czech also “brings valuable local experience” from his tenure as a part-time Animal Control Officer with Cheltenham Township.

“His hands-on approach and deep commitment to protecting both wildlife and the community have earned him a stellar reputation,” said the police department’s welcoming post to Facebook. “Throughout his career, Jerry has demonstrated remarkable dedication to public service, fostering understanding, and harmony between people and animals.”

The department described how excited its officers are to have this new breadth of knowledge join their force.

“His passion for educating the public about wildlife safety and conservation ensures he will be an invaluable resource for our community,” said the post.

“Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Jerry as he begins this new chapter in his career. We are confident his expertise and dedication will help us build a safer and more informed community for all.”

The Abington Animal Control offices are open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You can reach Czech at that office by calling 267-536-1412. If you happen to have an animal-related incident outside of office hours, you can contact police operations at 267-620-1401 for non-emergencies or dial 911 if there is an emergency.
