The Jenkintown School Board of Commissioners met for its combined meeting on Dec. 9 where it discussed tax implications for the 2025-26 school year.

Under the U.S. Department of Education, the Adjusted Index for the 2025-26 fiscal school year is 4.6%. The Jenkintown Board of School Directors adopted a resolution to not increase the tax rate for its public schools greater than the Adjusted Index.

The board stated that this acceptance “doesn’t say what it’s going to be,” but instead says what it cannot exceed [4.6%].

According to the resolution, “Board of School Directors certifies that increasing any tax at a rate less than or equal to the established adjusted index will be sufficient to balance its final budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year.”

The district will now submit information on a proposed increase in the rate of a tax levied for the support of the public schools to the Department within a week. The Department will then compare the proposed percentage increase in the rate of the tax with the adjusted index; within 10 days of receiving the proposal.
