A recent routine traffic stop in Abington resulted in an unauthorized gun discovery, from a driver who was the subject of a PFA.

According to Abington Township Police Department, police on patrol on Monday, Dec. 9 around 11:41 a.m. in the area of Limekiln Pike and Cricket Avenue in the Glenside section of Abington Township when they observed a silver Buick minivan with Pennsylvania tags traveling westbound on Limekiln. Police said that, because the license plate was obstructed by a tinted plate cover, prohibiting their ability to read the registration from a reasonable distance, they initiated a traffic stop.

During the investigation of the stop, the driver of the vehicle was identified as Izair Solri Flint, 24, of the 800 block of North Ninth Street in Philadelphia, police said. According to the police criminal complaint, police also discovered Flint was in possession of a loaded Taurus G2C semiautomatic 9 mm handgun.

Because Flint is the subject of a final protection from abuse (PFA) order in Philadelphia, he is ineligible to possess a firearm, police said. Flint previously had a permit to carry, however it had been revoked since Aug. 12, 2022, said police.

Flint faces a felony charge of firearms not to be carried without a license, a misdemeanor charge of possession of a prohibited firearm, and a summary offense of obscured plate, with tinted plate cover.

Flint remained in county jail overnight but was released on a $100 (10 percent of $1,000) monetary cash bail on Tuesday, Dec. 10. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Dec. 18 at 12:30 p.m.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
