The Abington Board of School Directors met on Dec. 2 for its reorganizational meeting.

Officials elected Dr. Melissa Mowry to serve as President and Yaasiyn Muhammad to serve as Vice President.

“It is the recommended action that the school board directors elect Dr. Melissa Mowry for the office as president,” said Board Member Brian Allen. “Congratulations, Dr. Mowry.”

Dr. Mowry replaces Shameeka Browne, who had served as Board President since she was elected in 2019.

“I would like to thank Mrs. Brown for serving the board with great dignity and respect,” said Allen. “It was a pleasure to have you as president of this board.”

“I’d like to thank former President Brown for your steadfast leadership, your poise, lessons you’ve imparted, grace, and just forward thinking,” said Muhammad. “Thank you for your support.”

The school board will convene again on Tues., Dec. 10, 2024.
